Statement of Judicial Action Group President, Phillip L. Jauregui, Regarding President Trump’s Nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to Fill the Supreme Court Vacancy of Justice Antonin Scalia
I am especially optimistic about the nomination of Judge Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Respectfully, I do have a few concerns. More importantly, however, I suspect some Senators may have concerns as well, and they share in the power of choosing Supreme Court Justices.
Judge Gorsuch could serve on the Supreme Court until the year 2045 or 2050. Accordingly, Senators will have the opportunity to speak with him, to review his answers to the Senate Questionnaire, and to evaluate his testimony. I suspect Senators will want to ensure that Judge Gorsuch would faithfully follow the Constitution, and also fix old anti-constitutional decisions that disrespected the text of our laws.
This is a special moment for our Nation. For decades, our judges have forsaken their oaths, broken covenant with God, and stolen law-making power. We pray that God will bring judicial renewal to our Nation and that Judge Gorsuch will be a part of that renewal.
